We have put together some common questions about our business, which we hope will help you to understand more about us, the Sherpa Kids family.

What will it cost me to set up a Country / State Master Franchise?
The total cost will vary depending on the size of the country or state you are purchasing. Typically, they cost upwards from $AUD75,000 to establish. In addition to this you will need to pay the franchise fee.
What will it cost me to set up a single Sherpa Kids centre?
The total cost will vary depending on the size of the school. As you are using existing facilities, setups costs are typically very low. On average, the typical school setup will cost between $AUD5,000 and $AUD10,000 to establish. In addition to this you will need to pay the franchise fee.
Do I have to find a site?
We are constantly looking for sites, however we cannot cover the entire market and rely on the State Master Franchisee and the local franchisees to manage site selection. With this in mind we welcome potential franchisees who find their own sites to recommend these for our consideration and approval.
I don’t know anything about running a business like this, is this acceptable?
Yes. Before you open your first site, we will provide you with comprehensive training so that you can learn the Sherpa Kids systems and procedures.
I want to invest in a Sherpa Kids franchise, but I don’t want to work in the business. Is this acceptable?
Experience tells us that Sherpa Kids franchises perform significantly better when their owners actively participate in the day to day running of the business. We therefore require that the owner of the business devote his/her full time and attention to the business – we do however, encourage franchise owners to employ a site manager to focus on the running of the programmes, thereby enabling themselves to focus on growing their businesses.
How much money will I make as a Sherpa Kids franchise owner?
This will depend on numerous factors including your role, the sites location and the way in which the franchise owner operates the business. We do not provide franchisees with any sales or profit forecasts in relation to franchises, so franchisees should prepare their own financial projections after seeking independent accounting advice.
Do I need to create the Programs?
No. You will be provided with all the Sherpa Kids programs, modules and “tool box” necessary to support the programs. It is your responsibility to engage and localise the programs with the school community and organise the collateral and materials required for the programs and implement them throughout the term.
What are the ‘typical’ hours of operation and program schedules?
Opening hours for before and after school care and vacation programs are tailored to the needs of the school and the parent community. Our point of difference is our planned activities. These are generally based on a weekly structure as follows:
  • Monday: Arts & Crafts
  • Tuesday: Music & Drama
  • Wednesday: Sport & Games
  • Thursday: Cooking & Technology
  • Friday: Fun Activities
A ‘typical’ After School Care daily routine is as follows:
  • 3:00pm – 4:00pm: Roll call, recharge with afternoon tea and outdoors warm up
  • 4:00pm – 4:30pm: Homework or quiet activity
  • 4:30pm – 5:00pm: Planned learning activity (e.g. Art &Craft)
  • 5:30pm – 5:45pm: Outside play (if weather/light permits)
  • 5:45pm – 6:00pm: Tidy up, quiet time, children are picked up
Do I need to be qualified in the industry?
No. Our Sherpa Kids business model allows you to employ fully qualified program managers to work on the local school site and report to you. Your role is to work with the principals, in building relations, reporting to the school, administrative and managerial responsibilities and working with Head Office.
What is the size of a Master territory?
Your local franchisees are allocated a school list in a predefined area, which could list 8 -12 schools depending on the number of schools within that territory. So as a master franchisee you have a lot of flexibility.
What level of qualifications should my staff need?
This is variable per state and will be discussed during your application. You will need a qualified Program Manager to operate each school site if you do not hold the qualifications. As our business model allows for several schools you will need to employ qualified program managers for the site/s you are not directly operational in. This is how your territory grows and develops. We are not seeking owners to operate in one school, we are seeking multi-site owners to grow a substantial business.
