THE SUPPORT FROM SHERPA KIDS WAS UNFAILING…
“After 18 years with South Africa’s largest listed education group I was looking to do something on my own – as my independence and creativity was feeling stifled.
I was looking for a business opportunity which allowed me to utilise my experience in education, training and development. I am personally very interested in business ideas where the market demand clearly exists but the solutions do not. Sherpa Kids ticked all of these boxes for me.
Before I entered the Sherpa Kids network I spent time understanding the market in South Africa, visited a few of the international Sherpa Kids centres. I found the support from Dawn in this process was unfailing. She is always available to chat and through conferences and group chats has kept the inter country dynamic strong.
Three and a half years later – Sherpa Kids South Africa has a network of 18 franchisees operating in 3 provinces as well as one within our neighbouring country, Namibia. We operate in over 40 different primary schools and service on average 1000 families daily.
I am very proud of the work our team has done to launch within the South African market, as a new player in the franchise industry and within the school service provider sector. South African’s are loyal to home-grown brands and only 15% of franchise brands emanate from outside South Africa. OSHC is an underdeveloped sector and parent/user education has been a critical success factor.

SEIZE THE OPPORTUNITY…
“After several months of research and due diligence into the Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) market in Ireland I believed there to be a real gap in the market for an organised and structured service that could be repeated across the country.
Having no relevant experience in childcare, except with my own daughter, my next hurdle to overcome was how I could seize this opportunity quickly and hold onto the “first mover” advantage I had identified. I had 2 choices – either I could spend years trying to build up a brand that would be recognised for excellence, integrity and affordability in care or I could see if there was anything out there that met these criteria.
I was unsure of what to expect going forward from there but the tools I was provided with, the continual business and personal development that was insisted on and the unique transferability of this brand has given me a business which positively challenges me every minute of every day.
That said, it is not just a business as it gives so much more than that. I feel that Sherpa Kids Ireland is providing a service to the local community, helping single parents get back to work, helping schools and teachers manage their finances and time more efficiently and most importantly of all, it is giving the kids something that they love.
And all of this is done in a business environment that has been created with a satisfactory warmth that makes me feel an identity with a family I didn’t have a year ago.”
